I grew up in a small town on the outskirts of the second-most-world-famous city in the Netherlands,
Gouda. I was into sports, drawing, Wu-Tang and Pearl Jam, Mike Myers and Eddie Murphy. By the age of thirteen, I started making Vietnam movies on my Mini VHS camcorder and writing absurdist short stories with my equally absurd friend Frank.
After finishing school, I spent a formative year living and traveling in Mexico, followed by working as an underpaid busboy in Barcelona. Eventually, I moved to Amsterdam to study intellectual property law at the University of Amsterdam (UvA) and later at ICADE in Madrid.
Upon graduating, I decided to not become a lawyer but to “...I don’t know, do something creative” instead. I found a co-conspirator in my friend Jan-Willem and together we landed a one-week contract at a small shop called CCCP, which turned into a 4 year tenure. From there, I moved on to TAXI, then JWT, then spent the better part of a decade at 72andSunny, before joining Dawn as their creative director. Now, I’m available solo or in a team with that same Jan-Willem.
I always try to approach my work with optimism, honesty, and light-heartedness. I believe one of the most effective ways to make people listen, is to make them laugh.
Even if just a little.
